Pastor Dennis Winzenried is a Colorado native, born in Fort Collins, Colorado. He first experienced God’s love through his family, his church – 1st United Presbyterian Church, Fort Collins and in the Colorado Rockies. A favorite verse related to this is from Psalm 8.
3-4 I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous,
your handmade sky-jewelry,
Moon and stars mounted in their settings.
Then I look at my micro-self and wonder,
Why do you bother with us?
Why take a second look our way? (The Message – The Bible in Contemporary language)
Yet like all men and women, God did take special interest in Pastor Dennis. He experienced his call to ministry while attending Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. Through this sense of call, Pastor Dennis has been able to meet many wonderful children of God.
He married Phyllis Bowman on July 20th, 1974 just prior to graduating from Fort Lewis and then the two of them set off on an adventure of life and faith.
He attended and graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin, Texas and then was ordained to the Gospel ministry on July 20th, 1980.
He has served four churches: Westminster Presbyterian Church, Odessa, Texas as an Associate Pastor; Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church, Jones Creek, Texas as pastor; Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, Wichita, Kansas as pastor and now Community Presbyterian Church, Forsyth, Missouri. He’s been pastor in Forsyth for 14 years.
He and Phyllis have two sons – Nathan married to Leslie who live in Wichita, Kansas and Scott who lives near by in Branson, Missouri. Two grandchildren: David Anderson a step grandson in Wichita and Mackenzie granddaughter, living in Branson
He loves living in the Ozarks and being pastor of Forsyth Community Presbyterian Church. His sense of call is to serve Christ, pastor the people of the congregation and be a pastor to the community at large.
