Daily Easter Devotion Thursday, May 8

Thursday, May 8, 2014 – Psalm 68; Exodus 20:1-21; Colossians 1:24-2:7 and Matthew 4:1-11

Today, let us be reminded of the Ten Commandments.

Exodus 20:1-21 – (the first four deal with our relationship with God.)

1. I am the Lord your God, have no other gods before me.

2. Do not worship any graven image/idol.

3. Do not take the LORD’S name in vain.

4. Remember/keep the Sabbath day.

(The last six deal with our relationship with one another.)

5. Honor your father and mother. (Something good to remember as we approach Mother’s Day.)

6.  Do not murder.

7. Do not commit adultery.

8. Do not steal.

9. Do not commit false witness.

10. Do not covet anything that is your neighbor’s. (I found it interesting that neighbor’s house is mentioned before neighbor’s wife. What would today’s list look like? Neighbor’s house, wife (spouse), car, cash. What would you add to this list?)

When we break God’s law, we break relationship with God and others.

In the New Testament we hear Jesus sum up God’s law when he said; “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your mind, all your soul and all your strength and love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Friends, today may we strive to keep God’s laws and follow in his way for in doing so we will find real life.

O God, I know I don’t always love you nor always love my neighbor/others. May I make loving you and others the guiding principal of my life. May I walk in Your ways. Amen.
