Daily Easter Devotion Tuesday, May 6

Tuesday, May 6, 2014 – Psalm 66; Exodus 19:1-16; Colossians 1:1-14 and Matthew 3:7-12

As we continue our journey through Eastertide, the season for remembering and celebrating all God has done through Jesus’ rising from the dead, we find reminders from the past of what God has done. In the reading from Exodus we find God’s people on their journey through the wilderness. The Epistle reading is the opening words to the letter to Christians in Colossae. The reading from the Gospel of Matthew contains words of John the Baptist pointing towards the one who was to come, namely Jesus.

Scripture is full of the great things God has done. It’s important to hear and know what God has done, so that we can see all the great things God is doing this day. Looking back, I believe, helps us as we open our eyes and hearts to all the great things God is doing today.

The passage from Colossians contains a prayer that I have for each of us today and as I do my daily devotions.

Colossians 1:1-14 – 9For this reason, since the day we heard it, we have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God.

It is my prayer that each of us can be filled (heart, mind and soul) with the Knowledge of God’s will so that we can lead lives worthy of God’s love and fully pleasing to Him.

All about me I see the signs of new life. Mackenzie and I have found three nests, two close to our house, with eggs in them. None have hatched yet, but soon will. The eagles continue to sit on their nest. No signs of the babies, only mom and dad tending the eggs. There is also all the green grass, leaves and flowers.

My question to myself and to you is; what signs of new life do you experience in your own life today? What came to mind as I wrote that was, “I’m breathing. I’m alive. And it is a new day full of possibilities to experience God’s love and serve Him.”

What signs of new life do you experience in your own life today?

Psalm 66 – 1   Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth;
2        sing the glory of his name;
give to him glorious praise.
3   Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! ….

5   Come and see what God has done:
he is awesome in his deeds among mortals. ….

8   Bless our God, O peoples,
let the sound of his praise be heard,

O God, thanks be to you for all the signs of new life all about me. Thanks be to you for this new day to experience your love and to serve you. Throughout this day may I sense the new life you give unto me and find ways to share it with others. Amen.
