Daily Easter Devotion Tuesday, April 29

Tuesday, April 29, 2014 – Psalm 146; Exodus 15:1-21; 1 Peter 1:13-25 and John 14:18-31

John 14:18-31 – 27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.

When I was in my teen years, yes years ago, there was a song by Simon and Garfunkel “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”. The opening verses and chorus were;

When you’re weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes,
I will dry them all
I’m on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can’t be found

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you’re down and out
When you’re on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I’ll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around

Here’s a link to a Youtube video of this song, I wish it had more slides yet I simply enjoy the lyrics and the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjNgn4r6SOA

This wasn’t a religious song, yet I always heard Good News in it. I heard Jesus singing this song to the troubled and broken hearted. I heard how he had laid down his life for us and had become the bridge over all troubled waters.

When troubled I turn to this verse from John 14: 27 – 27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. It gives me comfort for I know that true peace only comes to us from God and God’s gifts of His Son and the Holy Spirit.

Today, hear Jesus saying unto you; Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.

Psalm 146 – 5   Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the LORD their God,
6   who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them;
who keeps faith forever;
7        who executes justice for the oppressed;
who gives food to the hungry.

O God may I be an instrument of your peace. Today may you use me to help the brokenhearted and those who are troubled. May your peace which surpasses all understanding be in me and flow through me. Amen.
