Daily Easter Devotion Tuesday, April 22

Tuesday, April 22, 2014 – Psalm 98; Exodus 12:28-39; 1 Corinthians 15:12-28 and Mark 16:9-20

Mark 16:9-20 – 9Now after he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. 10She went out and told those who had been with him, while they were mourning and weeping. 11But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.

12After this he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. 13And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them.

14Later he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were sitting at the table; and he upbraided them for their lack of faith and stubbornness, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen.

Had an internet outage this morning, so I’m getting this off later than normal. Glad that our communication lines with God are always up and running.

What strikes me in this text from Mark is how difficult it was for the disciples to believe. Guess it’s no different today, many find it very difficult to believe in God’s very presence, in the resurrection of Christ and many even in God.

Here is something I pray often; “Lord I believe, help my unbelief.” This may have been what the disciples ended up praying as well.

I give thanks for my belief in Jesus’ resurrection, for in believing I find the gift of real life. Yet I know that I have a lot to learn about what God did, is doing and will do.

1 Corinthians 15:12-28 – 16For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised. 17If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18Then those also who have died in Christ have perished. 19If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.

20But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died.

O Lord, I give thanks for my faith and ask you to deepen it and continue to reveal to me and to the world the gift of Jesus’ resurrection and how it helps us find real life right here, right now. Amen.

Psalm 98 – 1   O sing to the LORD a new song,
for he has done marvelous things.
His right hand and his holy arm
have gained him victory.
2   The LORD has made known his victory;
he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations.
3   He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness
to the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen
the victory of our God.

4   Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises.
