Daily Devotion Holy Saturday, April 19

Holy Saturday, April 19, 2014 – Psalm 43; Lamentations 3:37-58; Hebrews 4:1-16 and Romans 8:1-11

In our Psalm reading today we hear;

Psalm 43 – 5Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my help and my God.

On this Holy Saturday, this is a good question to ask ourselves.

Here’s a couple of passages from God’s word for today that can help carry us over from Good Friday to Easter morning. I also find each very helpful as we think about my life in Christ.

Hebrews 4:1-16 – 14Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

This one who died for us, this one who will rise for us did experience life as we do. He can sympathize with us and help us as we go through the trials and tribulations of life. We can boldly go before him with our struggles knowing that it is Christ who can truly help us, for he really lived life.

What do you fail to take before Jesus? What do you want to take before Jesus? Do so, for Jesus our eternal high priest is the one who loves us, cares about us and will help us.

Romans 8:1-11 – 1There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and to deal with sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4so that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Friends, hear the good news of the gospel; Christ died for all our sins and rose to give us new life. We have been forgiven. Live in His Spirit freed of the past and open to the future God is calling you into.

O God, on this Holy Saturday when we remember that Jesus laid in the tomb help us not lose hope in the face of life’s many trials but hold on to the hope of Easter morn which is just around the corner. Maybe that how it is with us in our times of darkness we simply need to trust in you who died and then three days later rose again. We simply need to wait for the new day you have in store for us. Help us abide in you in good times and bad. Amen.
