Daily Lenten Devotion Saturday, March 22

Saturday, March 22, 2014 – Psalm 43; Genesis 43:16-34; 1 Corinthians 7:10-24 and Mark 5:1-20

Mark 5:1-20 – 18As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed by demons begged him that he might be with him. 19But Jesus refused, and said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and what mercy he has shown you.” 20And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.

We often hear about Christians hearing the call to go unto another major city or country to share the gospel. In this text we hear Jesus telling the one healed of a legion of demons not to come with him but to stay and tell his neighbors what he had done. My sense is Jesus tells more of us to tell our neighbor, people where we live than to go off and tell others far away.

The demoniac was to tell his neighbors how much Jesus had done for him. This is what we’re to tell. We’re to tell others all that Jesus has done and is doing for us.

This morning think of all that Jesus has done for you and how Jesus has changed your life. Then be prepared to share your story with others. Tell them what Jesus has done. Tell them how important Jesus is to you.

O Christ, because of you I have new life. You have given my life focus and purpose. Thanks for coming unto me and thanks for calling me to serve you where you call me to go. I’ve gotten to see some great places and meet great people. Today use each of us where we are to share Your Good News, Your Gospel that others might sense the power You have to give new life. Thanks be to You, O Christ for the gift of life. Amen.

Psalm 43 – 3   O send out your light and your truth;
          let them lead me;
     let them bring me to your holy hill
          and to your dwelling.
