Monday, February 24, 2014 Psalm 57; Proverbs 3:11-20; 1 John 3:18-4:6 and John 11:17-29

Proverbs 3:11-20 – 13Happy are those who find wisdom, and those who get understanding, 14for her income is better than silver, and her revenue better than gold.

1 John 3:18-4:6 – 18Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. …. 23And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. 24All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us.

Here are the two things we are to do. First love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Second we are to love one another. Love, real true love, is the heart of the matter of life.

Mackenzie brought home a poster from church with the word “agape” in big bold letters. While coming home for church, I told her that her goal was now to find where this word is written in our home. That may have been somewhat misleading, but when Phyllis is home it is inscribed on the inside of her wedding ring. I gave Mackenzie a hint by having her ask grandma where the word was. Phyllis showed her.

God loves us with true love – agape type of love. We are called to love God with this depth of love and love others with this type of love as well. Our reading from 1st John once again reminds us that this is not simply in word but also in our deeds.

I can tell Phyllis I love her morning, noon and night but if my actions don’t show my love the words are of little value. The true value of our love for God and others comes from how we live out this love which God has given unto us.

Today, seek to abide in God by living out the love God has for us and calls us to have for God and one another.

Psalm 57 – 5   Be exalted, O God, above the heavens.
Let your glory be over all the earth.

This begins by God being exalted, above all that is, in our hearts, our mind and our souls.

O God, I know my love for you and for others is very imperfect. May I seek to perfect this love by striving to abide in Your love and allowing Your love to abide in me; my heart, my mind and my soul. Amen.
