Saturday, February 22, 2014 – PSALM 56; GENESIS 35:1-20; 1 JOHN 3:11-18 and JOHN 11:1-16

1 JOHN 3:11-18 – 16We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us – and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. 17How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? 18Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.

Several years ago there was a curriculum for Sunday school called “Doing the Word”. It was built around the premise that it was important to learn the word but it was equally important to “do” the word.” We are called to live out the faith given us through Christ.

Today, I’ll be attending our Presbytery meeting in Springfield, MO. It’s a time for the pastors (Teaching Elders) and elders (Ruling Elders) from all of John Calvin Presbytery to get together to worship and conduct the business of the presbytery. One of the exciting things to me about our presbytery is that we’re attempting to also do the word of God as we participate and support the work of our own Presbyterian Disaster group and participate in a ministry called “Living Waters”. We strive to not only know the word but do the word.

I’m responsible for worship today and give thanks for the many who will help with the worship service. I trust it will go well.

Today focus upon this; Jesus died, gave his life that you might have life. How are you called to live out your faith today, to do your words?

PSALM 56 – 8   You have kept count of my tossings;
put my tears in your bottle.
Are they not in your record?  ……
9c  This I know, that God is for me.

God does know our joys and troubles. This Psalm contains something that I hold dear to my heart; “I know, that God is for me”. Regardless of the happenings of life, I trust in that, always knowing that God is with me and for me.

O God, today add your blessing to the worship at presbytery. May we sense your presence amongst our own presence with one another. Amen.
