Daily Devotion Saturday, February 8

Saturday, February 08, 2014  – Psalm 63; Genesis 24:28-38, 49-51; Hebrews 12:12-29 and John 7:14-36

Hebrews 12:12-29 – 12Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, 13and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed. ….. 28Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe; 29for indeed our God is a consuming fire.

Well the Winter Olympics of 2014 opened last night. I always enjoy the Olympics and even enjoy watching some sports I know little or nothing about. The level of competition is so high, each athlete striving to do his/her best. It’s exciting this year because two of the Olympians from the USA got their start in Springfield, MO – Gracie Gold in Women’s figure skating and Emily Scott in Short Track. To get to this level and medal the athletes have to work to overcome any weaknesses they may have and train, train, train.

Friends, as a disciple of Christ we are similar; we shouldn’t let anything get in the way of our being the best for Christ. This is not an easy task, especially when we let things or people get in our way.

The goal, to be Christ like, is set before us. What keeps us from really focusing upon this goal that is before us?

Our reward is guaranteed through Christ, let us thank God for this gift, by worshipping God and striving to live daily as little Christ’s.

Enjoy your Saturday and use it to prepare yourself to worship God tomorrow with all the saints of the church. Blessed Saturday to on and all.

O God, I know I let things get in the way of my being more and more like you. May the Spirit be my coach in guiding me in my training to be more like Christ and live more fully for you. Amen.

Psalm 63 – 1   O God, you are my God, I seek you,
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
