Wednesday, January 29, 2014 – Psalm 65; Genesis 16:1-14; Hebrews 9:15-28 and John 5:19-29

John 5:19-29 – 19Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise. 20The Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing; and he will show him greater works than these, so that you will be astonished. 21Indeed, just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whomever he wishes. 22The Father judges no one but has given all judgment to the Son, 23so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Anyone who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. 24Very truly, I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come under judgment, but has passed from death to life.

25“Very truly, I tell you, the hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26For just as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself; 27and he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. 28Do not be astonished at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29and will come out — those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

My sense is that God reveals Himself to everyone, yet not all believe. God reveals Himself through His word, through His people, through all of creation; yet some simply choose not to believe.

At one time in my life I thought I knew who was saved and who was not. I was very judgmental. What I’ve come to believe is that eternal judgment is best left up to God. My calling is to show and share His love and grace and peace to others and pray that they come to believe. I know what they see through me is my imperfect love and my prayer is that even through my imperfect love they might sense the perfect love of God given us through Jesus, God’s Son.

May the Holy Spirit open the hearts of unbelievers unto the powerful love of God given through the Father and the Son. May the Holy Spirit use each of us to help others believe.

O God, I praise You for revealing Your love to us through Your Son, Jesus Christ. You also reveal Your greatness through all of creation. May You use me and all Your children in the sharing of the good news of Jesus Christ. Open the eyes of the blind and let them see Your greatness, Your love, Your eternal gifts given through Christ. Use us, O God. Amen.

Psalm 65 – 1   Praise is due to you,
O God, in Zion;
and to you shall vows be performed,
2        O you who answer prayer!
To you all flesh shall come.
