Monday, January 27, 2014 – Psalm 57; Genesis (14:1-7) 8-24; Hebrews 8:1-13 and John 4:43-54

Psalm 57 – 3c God will send forth his steadfast love and his faithfulness.

That is a promise God made and kept when He sent His Son; to live, to be crucified, to die, to be buried, to be raised and to ascend into heaven so that the eternal and perfect covenant be cemented for all time.

Hebrews 8:1-13 – 1Now the main point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2a minister in the sanctuary and the true tent that the Lord, and not any mortal, has set up. …. 6But Jesus has now obtained a more excellent ministry, and to that degree he is the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted through better promises.

In the old covenant, the high priest had to offer sacrifices not only for the sins of the people but also their own. They had to do this regularly, year in and year out. But with Jesus as the perfect and eternal sacrifice, he becomes our eternal high priest who gave His life that we might have life. Through Christ’s sacrifice we have the eternal and perfect covenant with God Most High.

When one is charged with a crime, one gets a lawyer or public defender who will argue their case before a judge. The judge hears the case and once we are found guilty announces our sentence our punishment. With Jesus as our eternal high priest, Christ proclaims that the debt has been paid and we are free to go forth to love and serve God Most High. Thanks be unto God for this gift given unto us through the great and high priest forever, Jesus the Christ.

O God, help us accept fully the gift given unto us through Christ. Help us know that He is Your great and high priest who has offered His life as a sacrifice for all our sin. Because of this gift, help us seek to live this day seeking to bring honor and glory to You; God Most High. Amen.
