Wednesday, January 8, 2014 – Psalm 149; Exodus 17:1-7; Colossians 1:15-23 and John 7:37-52

John 7:37-52 – 37On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, 38and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.'”

Well last night we had a “river of flowing water” in our home. Well not a river but a pretty bad leak in the pipes brought about because of the severe cold weather.  During our encounter with this leak, I learned once again that it is the weakest point that can cause us problems.

The crack in the pipe brought about by the below zero temperatures occurred in an unused pipe. This pipe had been put in originally so that the stool in the master bathroom could be located next to the bath tub. Well, in the process of building the house it had been decided to relocate the stool in another location. That pipe was capped off, so was unused but still connected to everything else. It was on an outside wall, no insulation between it and outside wall. You get the picture.

We were very fortunate. It didn’t really start leaking till evening, when we were in the basement. It didn’t leak for long. So we had no major damage, just holes to fix from trying to find the break.

I bring this up because it relates to our striving to tap into the spring of living water, namely our Lord, Jesus Christ. In John 4:13-15 we hear; 13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.” It’s often our weakest link that keeps us from really connecting with our Lord Jesus Christ or it is some aspect of us that is simply there, yet of no real value.

So, do you have a weak link? Is there something that is really keeping you from connecting with Christ who is the eternal spring of life, the one who can cause living water to flow from your heart?

O God, thanks for watching over us last night and helping us find and fix the leak in our house. I give thanks for the skills and ability of Ralph Taylor who came over at 8 pm and worked till we found and fixed the leak, about 9:45. He’s a real blessing in many, many ways. Help me identify my weak link that keeps me from really connecting with you the spring of real life. Amen.

Psalm 149 – Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the faithful.
