Advent Daily Devotion Thursday, December 5

Thursday, December 5, 2013 – Psalm 120; Amos 4:6-13; 2 Peter 3:11-18 and Matthew 21:33-46

Advent has two basic themes. It is the time we remember and recall the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and it is also the time when we remember that God has promised that he will come again. The early part of Advent is often spent looking at this second aspect of God’s promise; that Jesus said he would and he will come again. This is what I want to look at today.

Jesus’ followers expected him to return during their lifetime and it didn’t happen. Every generation since and it is now up to about 101 generations has expected him to return. He hasn’t yet we know he will. So, we’re called to live as if he is going to return even today.  Our text today from 2 Peter gives us clues as to what we are to be about.

2 Peter 3:11-18 – 14Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish; 15and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. …. 18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

We’re to abide in God, trust in God and be at peace for we know who holds tomorrow. Thanks and praise be to God.

A goal for us each and every day is to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Spiritual growth in Christ should be one of our highest priorities/goals. If we do this we’ll find peace because of God’s love shown unto us, generation to generation.

So just like God’s people of long ago we wait for Jesus to come and while waiting we are to be found faithful. So, may we abide in Christ and seek to grow in Christ daily.

To God be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
