Advent Daily Devotion Tuesday, December 3

Tuesday, December 3, 2013 – Psalm 119:89-128; Amos 3:1-11; 2 Peter 1:12-21 and Matthew 21:12-22

As we begin this devotional time together, I’d like you to take a few moments to think of something on earth that would last forever.

For me what comes to mind is the majestic mountains of Colorado. Whenever I’m able to return to Colorado nothing seems to have changed. I haven’t returned since the disastrous flooding of this summer, so when I do return some things really will have changed; yet the majestic Rockies will still towering above everything. Yet, if I could live long enough, say a million years, the mountains of Colorado may have become much like the hills of Missouri. Nothing on this earth is permanent. All is changing.

In Psalm 119:89-128 today we hear;

89 The Lord exists forever;
your word is firmly fixed in heaven.
90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations;
you have established the earth, and it stands fast. …

God’s word is firmly fixed. God’s faithfulness will endure forever. Thanks be to God for this promise, for things in our life will change, yet God’s word and faithfulness will be with us.

On this the first Tuesday of Advent, give thanks for how God and God’s word was, is and will always be. Trust in God and God’s faithfulness that endures through all generations. And know:

105 Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.

Thanks be to God for God’s word given unto us. Thanks be to God that the one we await was God’s living word sent from heaven above. God is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end may we trust in God.

O God, thank you for reminding us that your word is firmly fixed and that your faithfulness will endure forever. Today, may we trust in you for you are the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. May your word be a lamp unto our feet and a light to guide us on the paths of life. Thanks be to you O God, now and forever more. Amen.
