Daily Devotion Friday, November 29

Friday, November 29, 2013 – Psalm 118; Isaiah 24:14-23; 1 Peter 3:13-4:6 and Matthew 20:17-28

Psalm 118 and the verses I selected today could have been my Psalm for the Thanksgiving meal. As I said yesterday, thanksgiving – having a grateful heart – isn’t just something for one day, but every day. So, join me in this Psalm of thanksgiving for today.

Psalm 118 – O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his steadfast love endures forever!

14 The Lord is my strength and my might;
he has become my salvation.

24 This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

28 You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
you are my God, I will extol you.

29 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.

I know many people who begin each and every day with verse 24; “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.Every day is a gift from God. Another way to say this is; “Thank you, O God, for this day that you did not promise me but yet are giving me. May I seek to serve you the giver of all life, throughout it. Amen.

Friends continue to give thanks to the Lord and honor him by loving him and loving others. This brings me to what I read in the reading from Matthew.

Matthew 20:17-28 – whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, 27and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave; 28just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

How do you serve God and others? How do others serve you? Today be open to the many ways God will call you to be of service to Him by serving others?

O God, thank you for this day and the many opportunities I’ll have to serve you by serving and helping others. Amen.
