Daily Devotion Friday, November 8

Friday, November 8, 2013 – Psalm 100; Ezra 7:27-28, 8:21-36 or Ezra 5:1-17;
Revelation 15:1-8 and Matthew 14:13-21

Psalm 100 is one of my favorite Psalms. I’ve used it as a call to worship. I’ve read it when I simply wanted to hear a joyful word. What stands out to me today is how it calls all the people to worship God.

Psalm 100 – Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
    Worship the Lord with gladness;
come into his presence with singing.

Know that the Lord is God.
It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, bless his name.

For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Psalm 100 is one you may want to memorize, write upon your heart.

Then in our reading from Revelation 15 we hear;

Revelation 15:1-8 –  “Great and amazing are your deeds,
Lord God the Almighty!
Just and true are your ways,
King of the nations!
4   Lord, who will not fear
and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship before you,
for your judgments have been revealed.”

God is king of all the earth and one day all nations, all people will come before him to worship him.

Friends, God has got the whole world in his hands. May God use us his people to reveal his love to others this very day.

Great is the Lord and worthy of all peoples praise. Throughout this day let us worship and praise God.

Prayers today for the people in the Philippines as Super Typhoon Haiyan crashes into the eastern Philippines. With sustained winds of 315 kph (195 mph) and gusts as strong as 380 kph (235 mph), Haiyan was probably the strongest tropical cyclone to hit land anywhere in the world in recorded history.

My dad spent some time in the Philippines during WWII. Pray that God’s people can reach out to all affected by the storm and that in the days to come God’s people provides God’s presence in clean-up and search efforts.

O God, you are the God of all people. Guide your children today to share your love and grace and peace with others. Guide us to help others who are in need. Be with all in the path of Haiyan and may your people respond with helping hands today and days to come. Amen.
