Daily Devotion Thursday, November 7

Thursday, November 7, 2013 – Psalm 99; Ezra 7:(1-10) 11-26 or Zechariah 1:7-17;
Revelation 14:1-13 and Matthew 14:1-12

Revelation 14:1-13 – 13And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who from now on die in the Lord.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them.”

I’ve shared this verse at many funerals. It always gives me comfort and I hope it gives the family comfort. When a loved one trusts in the Lord and they die, we can be assured that their reward is eternal life in God’s holy kingdom. Their tears will now be tears of praise and joy, not tears of sorrow. They will rest from their labors and their deeds will follow them. Praise be to Christ for this promise from God’s holy word.

May we trust in this promise as well as we live this day to the glory of God.

O Christ, thanks be to you for the promise of eternal life. Thanks be to you for the promise of joy instead of sorrow in thy holy kingdom. May I trust in you and seek to serve you throughout all the days of my life, even as I look forward to eternity with you and all who dwell in your heavenly kingdom. Amen.

Psalm 99 – Mighty King, lover of justice,
you have established equity;
you have executed justice
and righteousness in Jacob.

Extol the Lord our God,
and worship at his holy mountain;
for the Lord our God is holy.
