Daily Devotion Friday, October 25

Friday, October 25, 2013  – Psalm 89; Ezra 3:1-13 or Jeremiah 43:1-13
1 Corinthians 16:10-24 and Matthew 12:22-32

1 Corinthians 16:10-24 – 13Keep alert, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. 14Let all that you do be done in love.

These are some of Paul’s final words in this letter to the Corinthian’s. They are also not bad words for us to focus on and live by as well.

Keep alert. Keep alert to all that God is doing in our midst. God has been active throughout history. This is partially what all of the scriptures is about. God is still active today. May we stay alert to God’s activity today.

Stand firm in your faith. The Christians in Corinth had many threats to their faith, many who opposed them and belittled their faith in Christ. We too have many threats to our faith. Many belittle it. Many oppose it. May we stand firm in what we believe. May our faith guide us.

Be courageous. Christians in Paul’s day faced the treat of trial, persecution and death and for some a probability.. It is for some Christians even in our day. We may not face being arrested for our faith yet we still need to be courageous and face our fears about sharing what we believe.

Be strong. Their strength and our strength can be found in the Lord God. God is strong and God’s love is everlasting. May we gain our strength by truly trusting in God.

Lastly, but definitely, not least; let all that we do be done in love. Today, may it be the love of God that guides us in all that we think, say and do. May our actions be God’s actions. We’ll have many opportunities to serve God today. When presented may we act out of love for God and one another.

Phyllis and I had a nice drive and stay at Roaring River State Park yesterday. Watched fly fishermen (no women) cast and sometimes catch a fish. It was nice to walk along the river. Beautiful area to visit.

Psalm 89 – I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever;
with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.
I declare that your steadfast love is established forever;
your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.

O God, may you be my strength as I strive to love you and serve you this day. Amen.
