Daily Devotion Thursday, October 24

Thursday, October 24, 2013 – Psalm 88; Ezra 1:1-11 or Jeremiah 42:1-22;
1 Corinthians 16:1-9 and Matthew 12:15-21

1 Corinthians 16:1-9 – 1Now concerning the collection for the saints: you should follow the directions I gave to the churches of Galatia. 2On the first day of every week, each of you is to put aside and save whatever extra you earn, so that collections need not be taken when I come.

Even in New Testament times they took up special offerings for those in need.

In this text we hear the encouragement to set aside our offering on the first day of every week. By setting it aside on the first day of the week, off the top, it won’t get spent for other things.

Psalm 88 – O Lord, God of my salvation,
when, at night, I cry out in your presence,
let my prayer come before you;
incline your ear to my cry.

For my soul is full of troubles,
and my life draws near to Sheol.

I can see one who is depressed identifying with this Psalm.

When was a time you felt like praying this Psalm?

O God, thank you for this time of refreshment and renewal. It’s good to have some time to refresh myself; body, mind and soul. Be with Phyllis and I spend out day doing things we want to do. Thanks be to you, O God. For your word this day. Amen.
