Tuesday, September 24, 2013 – Psalm 63; 2 Kings 5:19-27; 1 Corinthians 5:1-8 and Matthew 5:27-37

1 Corinthians 5:1-8 – 6Your boasting is not a good thing. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? 7Clean out the old yeast so that you may be a new batch, as you really are unleavened. For our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed. 8Therefore, let us celebrate the festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

For me the old yeast is my sinfulness and brokenness which I hold on to even as I trust in Christ. So, what Paul is calling me, calling us, to is giving up all our sin and brokenness that only puffs us up and draws us further and further from God. And then turn to Christ with sincerity and truth as we trust in him and seek to follow him.

Friends a little sin impacts our whole life. I really don’t think there is such a thing as a little sin, sin is sin. Brokenness is brokenness. So, this day may we seek to turn from all sin and brokenness and trust in God to guide us in all our ways.

O God, reveal to me the ways that really keep me from you. Reveal to me the errors of my ways, so that I can fully turn to you and trust in you, knowing that you will guide me in my ways. I know this is a life long journey. Thanks for always calling me back to my center, for I often aim off center as I seek my own ways. Amen.

Psalm 63 – O God, you are my God, I seek you,
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
