Friday, August 16, 2013 – Psalm 31; 2 Samuel 15:19-37; Acts 21:37-22:16 and Mark 10:46-52

Acts 21:37-22:16 – Paul giving his testimony;

 3“I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, educated strictly according to our ancestral law, being zealous for God, just as all of you are today. 4I persecuted this Way up to the point of death by binding both men and women and putting them in prison, 5as the high priest and the whole council of elders can testify about me. From them I also received letters to the brothers in Damascus, and I went there in order to bind those who were there and to bring them back to Jerusalem for punishment.

6“While I was on my way and approaching Damascus, about noon a great light from heaven suddenly shone about me. 7I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’ 8I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ Then he said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth whom you are persecuting.’ 9Now those who were with me saw the light but did not hear the voice of the one who was speaking to me. 10I asked, ‘What am I to do, Lord?’ The Lord said to me, ‘Get up and go to Damascus; there you will be told everything that has been assigned to you to do.’ 11Since I could not see because of the brightness of that light, those who were with me took my hand and led me to Damascus.

12“A certain Ananias, who was a devout man according to the law and well spoken of by all the Jews living there, 13came to me; and standing beside me, he said, ‘Brother Saul, regain your sight!’ In that very hour I regained my sight and saw him. 14Then he said, ‘The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know his will, to see the Righteous One and to hear his own voice; 15for you will be his witness to all the world of what you have seen and heard. 16And now why do you delay? Get up, be baptized, and have your sins washed away, calling on his name.’”

That was Paul’s testimony as to how he came to believe in the Christ. Mine isn’t as dramatic and yours may not be either, but we all have a story to tell as to how we came to believe in Jesus Christ. Mine isn’t near as dramatic for I was raised in the faith. Yet, it has many points as to when God encountered me, helping me believe more deeply in the one who came for me and all people.

There was the time I stop on top of the mountain near Camp Highlands near the cross. On three sides I could see the high Colorado mountains and to the east I could see the plains of eastern Colorado. I thought then how small I was and yet God loved me and cared for me so much that he sent his Son. Wow!

There was the time on the hillside in Durango, Colorado that I received the clear call from God for me to go into the ministry. I didn’t believe I had the gifts to do this important work but God showed me that he would mold me and use me as his instrument and he has.

There hasve been other times, many of them. Today what I sense is how God is with each of us on the journey of life and wants to show us his abundant love and then use us as instruments to share that love.

What is your testimony of faith. Many are not as dramatic as Paul’s but each is special for each has lead us to believe and trust in God who sent his Son that we might have life and have it abundantly and then find ways to share it with others. What is your testimony of your faith in God who loves you and sent his Son for you?

O God, thanks be to you who encounters us in life, showing us your love, your grace; showing us what real life is all about. Use me today to share your love with others whom you are encountering and whom you are calling to follow. Amen.

Psalm 31 –  Into your hand I commit my spirit;
you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

21a Blessed be the Lord,
for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me

24 Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
all you who wait for the Lord.
