Daily Devotion Tuesday, August 13

Tuesday, August 13, 2013 – Psalm 28; 2 Samuel 14:1-20; Acts 21:1-14 and Mark 10:1-16

Psalm 28 – Blessed be the Lord,
    for he has heard the sound of my pleadings.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
    in him my heart trusts;
so I am helped, and my heart exults,
    and with my song I give thanks to him.

The Lord is the strength of his people;
    he is the saving refuge of his anointed.

Each Psalm is a hymn unto God. As our hymnbook has many different hymns unto God, so the book of Psalms has many different hymns unto God.

In this one we hear the Psalmist giving thanks that God has heard the sound of his pleadings and that the Lord is his strength and shield. With this Psalm he gives thanks to God.

Today, I have a funeral service for a member of the church. One of the things I’ll be sharing is her favorite hymns. The service is for Betty Fick and here are her favorite hymns; “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, “In the Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.

What is or are your favorite hymn(s)? How do they proclaim God’s love, strength and might?

Here’s a link to a new hymn. It may not be one of my favorites, but I find it very meaningful. Enjoy. 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman

O God, throughout this new day may I rely on your strength and your power and praise your holy name. Amen.
