Daily Devotion Friday, August 9

Friday, August 9, 2013 – Psalm 25; 2 Samuel 12:1-14; Acts 19:21-41 and Mark 9:14-29

Psalm 25 – To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. ….

Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
    teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth, and teach me,
    for you are the God of my salvation;
    for you I wait all day long.
….

I invite you to pray and meditate upon this portion of Psalm 25. Say it aloud several times and simply sit with these words asking God to reveal to you anew His ways, His paths. Spend 10 to 15 minutes or more with this prayer.

This is a prayer that one could pray every morning before going to God’s word. It calls one to be open to God’s word and God’s ways. Then in verse 10 we have this promise.

10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
    for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.

From the Gospel reading for today, we hear this prayer we could also pray often. “I believe, help my unbelief.”

Mark 9:14-29 – 21Jesus asked the father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22It has often cast him into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but if you are able to do anything, have pity on us and help us.” 23Jesus said to him, “If you are able! — All things can be done for the one who believes.” 24Immediately the father of the child cried out, “I believe; help my unbelief!”

O Lord, it matters not how much we know about You, we have more, much more to learn. So reveal to us anew this day, Your ways, Your paths, Your righteousness; so we can walk in them not only today but all the days of our life. O Lord, we believe, help our unbelief. Amen.
