Monday, August 5, 2013 -Psalm 21; 2 Samuel 7:1-17; Acts 18:1-11 and Mark 8:11-21

Psalm 21 – You bestow on him blessings forever;
you make him glad with the joy of your presence.

Mark 8:11-21 – 14Now the disciples had forgotten to bring any bread; and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. 15And he cautioned them, saying, “Watch out — beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.” 16They said to one another, “It is because we have no bread.” 17And becoming aware of it, Jesus said to them, “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? 18Do you have eyes, and fail to see? Do you have ears, and fail to hear? And do you not remember? 19When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you collect?” They said to him, “Twelve.” 20“And the seven for the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you collect?” And they said to him, “Seven.” 21Then he said to them, “Do you not yet understand?”

The disciples had seen many people, including themselves blessed through Jesus’ ministry. He’d brought about the feeding of 5,000 and then 4,000. Many people had been healed of lifetime or life taking illnesses. They themselves had been blessed through his very presence with them. Now on a boat with only one loaf of bread they are worrying. Jesus reminds them of what he did in feeding the multitudes. If he caused a little to feed a lot, couldn’t he now cause one loaf to feed his disciples? Absolutely!

Friends through the years God has really blessed us – individually and as his people. God has poured out blessings upon blessings. Thanks and praise be to God for all these blessings.

Why is it then that a problem comes our way, a situation arises and we fear? Sometimes fear for our very life? Why is that? We are human like the disciples? Yes. And, like them we don’t understand fully God’s greatness, God’s love and that God does provide for us.

Today, I plan on counting my many blessings, naming them one by one. Making a list and checking it twice. Then I plan on meditating on all the blessings I list, the many; so that hopefully I can know that God has blessed me and promises to continue to bless me as long as I live and even beyond into eternity.

O God, as showers once again water the earth outside, I thank you for how you provide for me day by day. Thanks for all your blessings, help me count them one by one so that I can remember them when I worry and fret about life. Thank, YOU O God for all your blessings of the past and reminding me that you promise to bless me always. Amen.
