Daily Devotion Thursday, June 27

Thursday, June 27, 2013 – Psalm 36; 1 Samuel 8:1-22; Acts 6:15-7:16 and Luke 22:24-30

Luke 22:24-30 – 24A dispute also arose among them as to which one of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25But he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26But not so with you; rather the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like one who serves. 27For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

Recently the National Basket Ball association named the most valuable player of the year, as did the National Hockey Association. It is an honor to be name the MVP.

In our reading today we hear the disciples wondering out loud who Jesus’ most valuable disciple was. Jesus’ answer; the most valuable disciple will be the one who serves, for I am among you as one who serves.

What I’ve noticed about most of those who do get named their sports most valuable player, they end up pointing back to the team who made it all possible.

Strive today to be one of Jesus’ most valuable disciple by finding ways to serve others as Christ served you.

O Lord, I know I enjoy it when accolades are thrown my way. May I always remember the greatest accolade I can desire is that people say, he truly is a servant of Christ. Forgive me when I put the attention upon me instead of you. May your sense of being a servant of God, guide me throughout my day, throughout my life. Amen.

Psalm 36 – 5   Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the clouds.
6   Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,
your judgments are like the great deep;
you save humans and animals alike, O LORD.

7   How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings.  …
9   For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.
