Monday, June 24, 2013 – Psalm 135; 1 Samuel 5:1-12; Acts 5:12-26 and Luke 21:29-36

Psalm 135 – 1   Praise the LORD!
Praise the name of the LORD;
give praise, O servants of the LORD,
2   you that stand in the house of the LORD,
in the courts of the house of our God.
3   Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good;
sing to his name, for he is gracious.

This morning I find myself listening to all the different birds singing. They all seem happy to have been given a new day, given food and maybe even thankful for one another.

When in Wichita, Kansas as pastor of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, we had a member who was homebound and got about in a wheelchair throughout her day. Yet, she began each day in the same way. She’d rise, get dressed, and get in her wheelchair and head to the front door of her house. She’d then open the door and say; “this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” She thanked God for each and every day. This is the way I find the birds welcoming this new day. May I do so as well.

One of the things I give thanks for today is that Phyllis has been able to go to Wichita to help our kids there do some outside painting to their home. She and our son’s in-laws along with our son, daughter-in-law and step grandson will be working on the house. I’d ask for your prayers for them as they do this, for the humidity has been high and the temperature in the low 90’s. Just pray for their safety and that all goes well.

Friends, this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good and as many say; “The Lord is good, all the time. All the time, the Lord is good.”

O Lord, do watch over and keep Phyllis, Nathan, Leslie, David, Larry and Peg as they work on Nathan and Leslie’s home. Thanks for providing dry weather, water to drink, and food to eat. Thanks for the talents they will be using to do these home repairs. Watch over them and keep them all safe. Amen.
