Daily Devotion Friday, June 21

Friday, June 21, 2013 – Psalm 65; 1 Samuel 3:1-21; Acts 2:37-47 and Luke 21:5-19

Psalm 65 – 5   By awesome deeds you answer us with deliverance,
O God of our salvation;
you are the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the farthest seas.

I believe it’s important to remind ourselves often of the great things God has done. So here’s my partial list. I say partial in that I’m sure that throughout this day I’ll be reminded of things I did not put on this list. So here goes.

God is the creator of all that is; from the center of the universe, to its farthest boundaries – God created it all and placed earth where it could sustain and give life. Thanks be to God.

God also created humanity in God’s image God created us male and female. Thanks be to God.

God delivered his people from bondage in Egypt and guided them to the Promised Land. Thanks be to God.

God called prophets, priests and kings to guide his people, calling them from sin and to life lived in relationship with his abundant love. Thanks be to God.

God sent His Son; born of Mary, raised by Mary and Joseph, sent unto all people, he healed the sick, walked on water, forgave sinners, gave sight to the blind and helped the crippled. He willingly went the way of Jerusalem, the way of the cross so that he could give his life for all our sins and rise to offer all new life. Thanks and all praise be to God.

God gave his Spirit unto Jesus’ followers. They proclaimed God’s good news and called many others to follow. Through their witness many were added to their fellowship daily. Thanks be to God.

Then as we say in one of our confessions; “The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture, engages us through the Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation, and calls women and men to all ministries of the church.” – (portion of A Brief Confession of Faith)

Thanks be to God.

From all this I deduce that even today, God is doing great, powerful and mighty acts. We simply need to open ourselves up to all that God is doing.

I share all this because I know many going through a rough time at the moment. Many may be wondering where God is and what is God up to. In the midst of all this chaos what I’ll be holding on to is that “Our God is an Awesome God”.

Here also is the words to this song.

When He rolls up His sleeves
He ain’t just putting on the ritz
(Our God is an awesome God)

There’s thunder in His footsteps
And lightning in His fists
(Our God is an awesome God)

And the Lord wasn’t joking
When He kicked ’em out of Eden
It wasn’t for no reason
That He shed His blood
His return is very close
And so you better be believing that
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

And when the sky was starless
In the void of the night
(Our God is an awesome God)

He spoke into the darkness
And created the light
(Our God is an awesome God)

Judgement and wrath
He poured out on Sodom
Mercy and grace
He gave us at the cross
I hope that we have not
Too quickly forgotten that
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God

O God, you are an awesome God. In the midst of the chaos of life may be remember that out of chaos you created all that is, out of the death of your Son he rose to offer us new life. Thus even today we can know and trust that you can and you will do awesome things for and with your children. Thanks be to you, O God. Amen.
