Daily Devotion Wednesday, June 12

Wednesday, June 12, 2013 – Psalm 132; Deuteronomy 31:30-32:14; 2 Corinthians 11:21b-33 and Luke 19:11-27

Deuteronomy 31:30-32:14 – 2May my teaching drop like the rain, my speech condense like the dew; like gentle rain on grass, like showers on new growth.

This would make a great prayer of illumination for worship or for my daily devotions. I’d change it though to say;

May God’s  teaching drop like the rain, God’s  speech condense like the dew; like gentle rain on grass, like showers on new growth.

It is God’s teachings that I strive to lift up as I prepare sermons, as I conduct weddings, as I lead funeral services, as I do my daily devotions. I do find that as I daily go to God’s word that God’s teachings do fall like rain and nurture me throughout the day and provides the growth for days and days to come.

The Ozarks are still really, really green. We’re having some drier days which is good, but understand more rain should come this weekend. The reports say we above average for rainfall in our area, but what is just as important is that we’ve had consistent, gentle rains between some heavy rains. It’s the persistent and gentle rains that really nurture the plants and trees around us. So it is with God’s word to us, persistent and gentle; daily and attending worship regularly.

May God’s word be showered upon you this day and nurture your very heart, mind and soul. Amen.
