Daily Easter Devotion Monday, May 13th

Monday, May 13, 2013 – Psalm 115; Ezekiel 4:1-17; Hebrews 6:1-12 and Luke 9:51-62

Luke 9:51-62 – 57As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” 60But Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61Another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62Jesus said to him, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

This text is causing me to ask myself, what gets in the way of my simply spending quality time with God? I have good intentions. I plan on setting time aside for God. I encourage others to do so. So, why do things get in my way of simply spending time with God? What is so important that I put it before God? Nothing is more important than following the Christ, yet things get in the way.

Today marks the final week of the season of Easter. Sunday is Pentecost Sunday the day we remember and celebrate the Spirit coming upon Jesus’ disciples. What do you sense our risen and now ascended Lord saying unto you about following him?

O Lord, may I put my hands to your plow, may I not only set aside quality time to spend with you but may I seek to hear your voice calling me to follow you each and every moment of each and every day. Amen.

Psalm 115 – 11  You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD!
He is their help and their shield.
