Daily Easter Devotion Friday, May 10th

Friday, May 10, 2013 – Psalm 49; Ezekiel 1:28-3:3; Hebrews 4:14-5:6 and Luke 9:28-36

Hebrews 4:14-5:6 – 4:14Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

This text from Hebrews has always given me great comfort. It is also a perfect reading to follow the celebration of Jesus’ ascension.

Today, sense how Jesus abides in heaven and is seated upon the throne of God. Jesus is our great and eternal high priest. It is he who appears before God on our behalf, stating how our sins are forgiven and offering prayers on your behalf.

As our reading ends, so let us do. Let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, letting all our requests be made known to God.

Read this text over several times. Let it sink deep into your soul. Sense how Jesus is our great High Priest, appearing before God on your behalf, even today.

O God, thanks for the gift of your Son, who is our great High Priest. It is he who makes intercession for us in good times and bad. Thanks be to you, O God. Amen.
