Daily Easter Devotion Tuesday, May 7th

Tuesday, May 7, 2013 – Psalm 66; Deuteronomy 8:11-20 or Deuteronomy 18:15-22; James 1:16-27 and Luke 11:1-13

Luke 11:1-13 – 1He was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Father, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
3        Give us each day our daily bread.
4        And forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us.
And do not bring us to the time of trial.”

5And he said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; 6for a friend of mine has arrived, and I have nothing to set before him.’ 7And he answers from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been locked, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything.’ 8I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, at least because of his persistence he will get up and give him whatever he needs.

9“So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. 10For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 11Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for a fish, will give a snake instead of a fish? 12Or if the child asks for an egg, will give a scorpion? 13If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Friends, in this text we are called to pray unto God, letting God know all that is upon our heart, our mind and our soul. We are to ask, search, and knock.

I really appreciate the times I can be with others and pray with them. At times I pray for them, but then there are those special times when we pray together. Those times are a real blessing unto me. BTW – thanks to skype and facetime I can do it with you who are even far away.

Today, I simply invite each of us to a time of prayer. Maybe there has been something upon your heart that you’ve hesitated to lift up to God in prayer. Yes, because God is God – God already knows what is on our hearts. Yet, there is something about us saying them before God, being fully open with God. So, today, find a comfortable place and let your requests be made known to God. Yesterday, I was with a family and there was a specific need. I prayed a quick prayer unto God and our prayers were answered immediately.

Just in case you are at a place in your life, where you don’t know what to pray; I offer the following. Pray it slowly, pausing often, let these words of our Lord flow from your lips and your heart and soul.

Our Father ……. who art in heaven, ……. hallowed be thy name. ….
Thy kingdom come, …….. thy will be done, ……. on earth as it is in heaven. …….
Give us this day ……. our daily bread; …….
and forgive us our debts, ……… as we forgive our debtors; ……
and lead us not into temptation, ….. but deliver us from evil. …….
For thine is the kingdom ….. and the power ……. and the glory, ……. forever.

You may want to pray this several times, seeking to hear where the Spirit guides you to really focus on this day.

May God hear our prayers and yes, I know God does. Let us pray.
