Daily Easter Devotion Friday, April 26th

Friday, April 26, 2013 – Psalm 138; Jeremiah 31:15-22; Colossians 3:1-11 and Luke 7:1-17

Colossians 3:1-11 – 1So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, 3for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

I’ll often end prayers with “may you guide all I think, say and do.” I begin with “think” because I know most of my actions originate from what I think about. If I think about God and God’s ways, then my actions are guided by God. If I think of things of the world; money, things or other worldly aspirations then these guide my thoughts.

So as our text today says; may we “seek the things that are above” and “set our mind on things that are above, not on things that are on earth”. In doing so our thoughts will guide what we do and what we say.

Thanks be to God for Christ who came that we might see better ways of thinking, saying and doing. May Christ be our guide in all we do this day.

O Lord, I know I let my mind wander and this takes me places you do not want me to go. Thanks for giving me your word which contains signposts guiding me back to focusing upon you and your ways, and helping me focus on things that are above; namely you my Lord and my Savior. Amen.

Psalm 138 – 1   I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
2   I bow down toward your holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness;
for you have exalted your name and your word
above everything.
