Daily Easter Devotion Tuesday, April 16th

Tuesday, April 16, 2013 – Psalm 66; Daniel 4:28-37; 1 John 4:7-21 and Luke 4:31-37

1 John 4:7-21 – 7Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. 10In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. 12No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.

….. 19We love because he first loved us.

While on study leave at Ghost Ranch, I came to appreciate how my friend K. O. would sit with God and God’s word. He’d read God’s word and a devotion for the day, then simply sit with it. He’d quiet himself and sit with God.

So, today that is what I feel invited to do, sit with God and abide in his word that says; “Beloved (Dennis), let us love because God first loved us.”

I’m going to quiet myself and sit with God for a few minutes.

What I first sensed is road blocks I put up that keep me from loving as God loves; my wants, my desires, my very self.

I also sensed how hard it is to still all other voices but God’s own.

Yet, in the end I heard clearly God’s call for me to “love as He has loved.”

This is what I’ll be taking into my day, God’s call for me to love as God first loved and even now loves me.

What will you be taking into your day? What does this word from God say to you?

O God, I know that I do not love as you love me. I know that I fall far short of your love. Yet, you don’t abandon me you call me to continue to abide in your love, sense your love and learn to really love as you love. May I set aside all barriers within me that keep me from loving as you love. Amen.

Psalm 66 – 1   Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth;
2        sing the glory of his name;
give to him glorious praise.
3a   Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!

By the way; thanks for your prayers for our safe travels home. We left early and I got home by 8:30 pm. Smoothly driving (well there were some rough roads along the way … helps me appreciate construction/repair zones for some roads need some repairs) and really good company; K.O. and God watching out for us. Again, thanks for your prayers.
