Daily Easter Devotion Monday, April 8th

Monday, April 8, 2013 – Psalm 145; Daniel 1:1-21; 1 John 1:1-10; and John 17:1-11

1 John 1:1-10 – 5This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; 7but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

There sure are a lot of ifs in this reading. I’m going to try to get to the bottom of all of them.

Bottom line seems to be that we are to walk in the light, the light given and revealed through Jesus Christ so that we can be in fellowship with God, fellowship with one another and be forgiven of all our sins. Problem is I don’t always abide in God’s light nor walk in all his ways. Problem is I put my own wants and desires above God’s light and God’s ways. I sin.

Thanks be to God for all the ifs in verses 8-10, for in them we can know that as we confess our sins God is faithful and just in forgiving us of all our sin. Thanks and praise be to God.

Here this promise from Psalm 145;

8   The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9   The Lord is good to all,
and his compassion is over all that he has made.

Thanks and praise to God, whose very nature is to forgive our sins and give us new life.

My goal today will be to walk in God’s light, given and revealed through His Son, Jesus Christ. That’s my goal. At the end of the day, I’ll take a look back to see where I succeeded and where and when I failed. Then ask God’s forgiveness, seeking to stay closer to his ways tomorrow.

I’m on my way to Ghost Ranch, in New Mexico. I’m going out with K.O. Noonoo a friend of mine. His birthday is today. For me this is a time for some study, reflection and renewal. I’d appreciate your prayers. We stayed in Elk City, Oklahoma last night; have a little over 500 miles to drive today.

Blessings to each of you as you seek to walk in God’s light this day.

Psalm 145 – 1   I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
2   Every day I will bless you,
and praise your name forever and ever.
3   Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
his greatness is unsearchable. …

5   On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
