Daily Easter Devotion Friday, Apirl 5th

Friday, April 5, 2013 – Psalm 96; Daniel 12:1-4, 13; Acts 4:1-12 and John 16:1-15

Psalm 96 3   Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous works among all the peoples.
4   For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
he is to be revered above all gods.

Acts 4:1-12 – 8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, 9if we are questioned today because of a good deed done to someone who was sick and are asked how this man has been healed, 10let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that this man is standing before you in good health by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead. 11This Jesus is
‘the stone that was rejected by you, the builders;
it has become the cornerstone.’

I marvel at how Peter, in the face of fierce opposition, could declare God’s glory revealed in Jesus Christ and tell of the marvelous works of God. This one who denied knowing Jesus, was now one who told of all Jesus had done and was doing.

I don’t face opposition for my faith, yet I hesitate to speak clearly of all God is doing in Christ. I hold back. I worry about the consequences of speaking the truth, even speaking the truth in love.

I guess what we need to do is trust in God’s Spirit revealed and then given in Christ. For in the reading from John for today we hear;

John 16:1-15 – 13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

I believe it was the Spirit which guided Peter and all the early disciples to openly share all the great things God had done and was doing. May the Spirit guide us to declare God’s mighty acts.

Friends, may we seek to  Declare his glory among the nations,  his marvelous works among all the peoples.

The hymn “To God Be the Glory” is another place I find God calling us to declare the great things he has done.

O God, may your Spirit guide us as we seek to share all the great things you have and are doing. Amen.
