Daily Devotion Holy Tuesday, March 26th

Holy Tuesday, March 26, 2013 – Psalm 34; Jeremiah 15:10-21; Philippians 3:15-21 and John 12:20-26

John 12:20-26 –23Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves me, the Father will honor.”

I invite you to listen and watch this video. As you watch it sense how in the end is our beginnings.

Today is Holy Tuesday, Tuesday of Holy Week. Jesus has set his face towards the cross, the cross that will be his ending, yet also his true new beginning.

Here’s a website that shares the lifecycle of a butterfly, really nice article.

In the Chrysalis stage, the caterpillar gives up its life and becomes a butterfly. I once heard if you cut open a Chrysalis during the middle part of this stage, all you get is a messy liquid. There seems to be no life there. But if left alone, out comes a beautiful butterfly.

Jesus said to his disciples; “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.” Jesus knew it was time for him to go the way of the cross, give up his earthly life, die, so that he might fulfill God’s ultimate design for his coming unto us. Jesus had to give up his life, so that he could offer all of us real abundant life.

Jesus goes on in this text to say; 25Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

On this Holy Tuesday, I hear the Christ saying to me; “Dennis, are there things/people you love more than me?” This is the question I’ll be asking myself this day. I know the answer should be no, but in reality there are things/people I put before the Christ.

Ask yourself this question and see where it leads you; “are there things/people you love more than the Christ?”

O Lord, help me fully love you, so that I can find real, abundant, Spirit filled life. Help me die to the loves of this world, and rise to my love of you. Amen.

Psalm 34 – 1   I will bless the LORD at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2   My soul makes its boast in the LORD;
let the humble hear and be glad.
3   O magnify the LORD with me,
and let us exalt his name together.
