Daily Lenten Devotion Monday, February 25th

Monday, February 25, 2013 – Psalm 119:73-80; Jeremiah 1:11-19; Romans 1:1-15 and John 4:27-42

Romans 1:1-15- 7To all God’s beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Today, let’s focus on how God calls us to be saints, to be holy, to be God’s light unto others. This doesn’t mean to be better than others, but simply to be disciples of Jesus Christ, to seek to be Christ-like in what we think, say and do.

In our reading from Romans today, twice Paul says, very close to one another also; Paul speaks of us being called. When we think of being called, we often think of pastors and in our Presbyterian tradition elders and deacons of the church. The fact of the matter is each of us is called by God to be saints, to be sanctified and holy, God’s light unto the world this day.

Throughout your day today focus upon this phrase; “called to be saints”. It may just change the way you go about your day, or at least how you see yourself throughout your day.

Friends we are all called by God to be holy. By our own power we cannot do all that God calls us to do, but with God’s Spirit-breath in us, we can do all that God calls us to do.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

O God, help me once again sense your call for me be to a saint, to be your light unto others this day. Amen.

Psalm 119:73-80 – 73  Your hands have made and fashioned me;
give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.
