Daily Lenten Devotion Thursday, February 14th

Thursday, February 14, 2013 – Psalm 27; Deuteronomy 7:6-11; Titus 1:1-16 and John 1:29-34

Psalm 27 – 1   The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?

8   “Come,” my heart says, “seek his face!”
Your face, LORD, do I seek.
9        Do not hide your face from me. …

11  Teach me your way, O LORD,
and lead me on a level path
because of my enemies.
12  Do not give me up to the will of my adversaries, …

14   Wait for the LORD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the LORD!

Lent is a time for turning to the Lord. True, all of life is to be about this. Yet, because we do wander along our own paths, seeking our own ways, it’s important to have special times of the year to remind us that this is what we are to be about.

I wonder if the Psalmist really knew what he was asking for when he prayed; “Your face, Lord, do I seek. Do not hide your face from me.” This is like asking God to shine the brightest of light upon our life, revealing all the dark places of our heart, mind, and soul. Yet, in sending His Son, Jesus Christ, this is just what God did yet in doing so God provides the answer for all our sin. Hear these words from our reading from John.

John 1:29-34 – 29The next day he (John the Baptist) saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, “Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Thanks be to God that the light unto the world, would be and is the one who takes away all our sin.

In the Psalm we also hear; “Teach me your way, O LORD,  and lead me on a level path.” May this be a part of our prayers each day throughout Lent, for in turning towards God we are seeking to follow God’s paths each and every day.

Grace and peace to us all from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior. Amdn.

By the way, Happy Valentine Day to one and all; may we remember those whom we love this day and those who we loved and who loved us even though they may now abide in the place of perfect love. Say a special prayer for those whom this day is one of the loneliest days of the year. May God’s love surround them and fill the emptiness of their life.
