Daily Devotion Saturday, February 9th

Saturday, February 9, 2013 – Psalm 63; Isaiah 56:1-8; Galatians 5:25-6:10 and Mark 9:14-29

Galatians 5:25-6:10 – 7Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow. 8If you sow to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh; but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit. 9So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up. 10So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith.

This is the last weekend before Lent. Mardi Gras celebrations are in full swing in New Orleans. One of the saying of Mardi Gras is “Seize the Day”. Our text today is calling for us to not only “Seize the Day” but seize life.

The other day, I dropped off the soup from Super Bowl Sunday at CAM, Christian Action Ministries. When I did so, one of the volunteers gave me a card, a religious track that had the word Death in the middle of it. But if you turn it 180O degrees the same word was life. It encouraged the holder of the card choose life (Christ) not death.

So, does our text today. Our text today calls us to sow to the Spirit so that we can reap eternal life from the Spirit.

As I’ve pointed out before, eternal life begins now, not just following our death. So, by seeking to live by God’s Spirit, we will be seeking to sow eternal life even this day.

Today and every day let us work to sow to the Spirit, for the good of all, through all we think, say and do.

How will you seek to sow the Spirit in your life this day? Once again, I hear our text calling me, calling us, to make space for God this Lent.

Psalm 63 – 1   O God, you are my God, I seek you,
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

O Lord, I know I often turn from your ways. May your Spirit and your word guide me to seek out your ways, your ways which lead to life, not only for me but for others as well. Begin preparing me even now for Lent, that time which I will seek once again to make more space for you. Amen.
