Daily Devotion Monday, January 14

Monday, January 14, 2013 – Psalm 5; Isaiah 40:12-24; Ephesians 1:1-14 and Mark 1:1-13

Here is some good advice I read in another devotion this morning:

If God were small enough to be understood, He would not be big enough to be worshiped.
– Evelyn Underhill

(Take care that you maintain a sense of the mystery of God.  The alternative is usually some form of idolatry.)

Ephesians 1:1-14 – 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love. 5He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace 8that he lavished on us.

When I read this text, I sense the love that God has poured out upon us and all his people. For me it is almost like I’m standing beneath God’s pitcher of ever flowing water and constantly being bathed in God’s love.

I invite you today, to simply read this text over and over again, sensing what God has done and is doing for us through his beloved Son, Jesus the Christ.

Sense how in Christ you have been adopted, redeemed and forgiven. Thanks be to God for the gift given to us through Christ.

May we be a blessing unto God this day for God has blessed us in Christ with EVERY spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Amen.

Psalm 5 – 7   But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,
will enter your house,
I will bow down toward your holy temple
in awe of you.
8   Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness ….
make your way straight before me.
