Daily Devotion Thursday, December 27th

Thursday, December 27, 2012 – Psalm 34; Proverbs 8:22-30; 1 John 5:1-12 and John 13:20-35

Psalm 34 –8   O taste and see that the LORD is good;
happy are those who take refuge in him. …

 3   O magnify the LORD with me,
and let us exalt his name together. …

22  The LORD redeems the life of his servants;
none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.

1 John 5:1-12 – 1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child. 2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. … 6This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth. 7There are three that testify: 8the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three agree. … 11And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

John 13:20-35 – 34I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. 35By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

On Christmas Day Phyllis and I watched the movie, “The Polar Express”. In it a young lad does not believe in Santa but gets to go to the North Pole, where he comes to believe, he can hear the Christmas bells ringing. His return ticket is punched with the word; believe. Nice, warm and fuzzy, Christmas movie.

Well on this the third day of Christmas, this is what God asks of us; that we simply believe and trust in what he has done and is doing. We’re called to believe that Jesus is the Christ; Son of God and Savior of all who believe. Then because we believe that Jesus is the Christ, we are called to love others just as God in Christ has loved us.

So today, here are the two words to hold on to; believe and love. Truly believe in God’s miracle of sending His Son and love; love God and love others. Believe and love the two words for not only this day, but for the rest of our life.

I give thanks for the gift of God’s Son, for through Him we see what life is really to be all about. Through Him our sins are forgiven and we are given the gift of new life. Thanks be to God for the Christ, who was and is the Son of God.

O God, I give thanks that I believe and trust in thee, and all you have done. Help me love you more deeply and love others as you have loved me. Continue to grow a Godly heart within me, within all of us. Amen.
