Daily Devotion Wednesday, December 26th

Wednesday, December 26, 2012 – Psalm 27; 2 Chronicles 24:17-22; Acts 6:1-7 and Acts 7:59-8:8

On the second day of Christmas …..

Psalm 27 – 1   The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?

On the second day of Christmas I share the following from my Bonhoeffer readings. May the joy of Jesus’ birth not fade quickly from our hearts or lips. In the world, all the Christmas songs become silent at 12:01 am December 26th. The stores go into return or gift exchange mode. But the songs of Christmas become silent. Yet for us, the birth of Jesus is only the beginning of God bringing life back to the earth, back to his creation.

For the sake of humankind, Jesus Christ became a human being in a stable in Bethlehem:

Rejoice, O Christendom!

For sinners, Jesus Christ became a companion of tax collectors and prostitutes:

Rejoice, O Christendom!

For the condemned, Jesus Christ was condemned to the cross on Golgotha:

Rejoice, O Christendom!

For all of us, Jesus Christ was resurrected to life:

Rejoice, O Christendom! …

All over the world today people are asking: Where is the path to joy? The church of Christ answers loudly: Jesus is our joy! (1 Pet. 1:7–9). Joy to the world! Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Joy to the World, the Lord has come and comes to us each and every day. Rejoice, O Christian! Your Lord has come and is coming and will come until the end of all time.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
