Daily Devotion, Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2012

Christmas Eve – Monday, December 24, 2012 – Psalm 132; Isaiah 35:1-10; Revelation 22:12-17, 21 and Luke 1:67-80

Hear the promises of God and know that God who makes promises, keeps and fulfills all His promises. For God is the One who makes and keeps all His promises.

Psalm 132 – 11The LORD swore to David a sure oath
from which he will not turn back:
“One of the sons of your body
I will set on your throne.

This was God’s promise to David and God’s promise to God’s people and is God’s promise to us. Thanks be to God. Amen.

Isaiah 35:1-10 – 1The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus 2it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing. …..

5Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; 6then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; 7the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp, the grass shall become reeds and rushes.

8A highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Holy Way;

Revelation 22:12-17, 21 – 12“See, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to everyone’s work. 13I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

Luke 1:67-80 – 68“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has looked favorably on his people and redeemed them. 69He has raised up a mighty savior for us in the house of his servant David,  ….. 76And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, 77to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the forgiveness of their sins. 78By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, 79to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

In the sending of His Son, God kept all the promises He ever made and through this gift, the only real lasting gift of Christmas we find real life – real everlasting life. So, on this last day of Advent 2012 may we focus upon the real gift of Christmas, enjoy all the others, but know which one will last from the time it was first given and unto all eternity.

May this day and tomorrow be blessed days for us all. Amen.

Merry Christmas from good old, Forsyth, Missouri. God bless us one and all.
