Devotion Day 67 - through the Bible in 90 days

Day 67 – Habakkuk 1:1 – Zechariah 10:12

Well, I didn’t meet my goal for today of finishing the Old Testament. In fact I didn’t quite get all the reading done for today. But wanted to send out my devotional thoughts before I go out and meet this new day God is blessing us with.

Our readings today opened with “How long, O Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, ‘Violence!’ but you do not save? Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrong? Destruction and violence are before me, there is strife and conflict abounds.” (Habakkuk 1:2-3)

Yesterday I heard and then watched some of the escalating violence/war in Israel. Bombs are being sent up from both sides Israel and the Hamas. I can hear the people crying out to God; “How long, O Lord, must we call out for help and cry out to you, “violence! But you do not save?”

I’d guess that more wars have been fought in that part of the world than any other.

In our readings today we hear once again God calling his people to turn unto him and his ways, so he can bless them. In Zechariah we hear; “This is what the Lord Almighty says; ‘Return unto me,’ declares the Lord Almighty, and I will return unto you, says the Lord Almighty.’” (Zechariah 1:3)

Friends today pray for peace in Israel. Pray that the people seek God and seek to follow God’s ways.

O Lord, today, I pray for your people and all people of the Middle East, especially those in Israel. May you raise up leaders who can find ways that they can live in peace. I pray for that day when weapons of war can be turned into plows but know that day may only come when you come once again. Amen.

Next reading Day 68 – Zechariah 11:1 (or in my case rest of Zechariah), all of Malachi (last book of Old Testament) and then begin our reading of the New; reading from Matthew 1:1 – 4:25.
