Devotion Day 64 – Through the Bible in 90 days

Day 64 – Daniel 9:1 – Hosea 13:6 (I read all of Hosea and doing my devotional on it.)

In Hosea we once again hear of the unfaithfulness of God’s people. The image of Hosea taking on an adulterous wife points to Israel’s unfaithfulness in worshipping foreign gods and trusting in them.

Here’s what God desires; “For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgement of God rather than burnt offerings.” (Hosea 6:6) This reminds me of the couple who comes in for counseling because the husband love is in other things than his wife; work, sports, clubs, fraternal organizations. He then decides to give her flowers, a nice dinner now and then, a new diamond ring. Her response; “I desire real love, not things. I desire you to love me for me.”

In Hosea 10:12 we hear; “Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord.” Friends as we read through the Bible in 90 days, this is what I find myself doing; plowing unplowed ground. Yes, I’ve read through all of God’s word before. Yes, I had and will have a practice of reading God’s word daily; but in reading through God’s word I once again find a field in my life that hasn’t been plowed. In sensing this I hear God’s call for me to plow that field, that area of my life and let God in. In doing this, I’m once again invited to experience the fruits of God’s unfailing love as I seek the Lord in all of my life.

What area of your life might you have left unplowed up till now?

For me, it was the evening hours of my day. Reading through the Bible in 90 days, has plowed this field of my life and I’ve let God in. In the weeks and days to come, may I sense the fruits that come from spending time with God in the evening as well as the mornings of my days.

Hosea ends with these words. Not bad words to end today’s devotional with; “The ways of the Lord are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them.” (Hosea 14:9b) May we seek to walk in God’s ways, for God’s ways lead to life full abundant life.

O Lord, thanks for pointing out unplowed fields of our lives. As we spend time with you may we plow these unplowed fields and then experience the fruits of opening up all our life unto thee. O God, thanks for your unfailing love which no matter how unfaithful we may be is always calling us to love you and worship you with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Amen.
