Devotion Day 60; Through the Bible in 90 Days

Day 60: Ezekiel 12:21 – 23:29 – In Ezekiel we once again hear God dealing with the sin of his people. In Ezekiel 16:49 we hear; “Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom. She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.” … Then in verse 52 we hear; “Bear your disgrace, for you have furnished some justification for your sisters. Because your sins were more vile than theirs, they appear more righteous than you. So then, be ashamed and bear your disgrace for you have made your sisters appear righteous.”

At times we look at others and think,” O what a good boy or girl am I”. But the fact of the matter is sin is sin and our sins are as great as others, at least in God’s eyes and we all stand in the need of God’s love and forgiveness.

We do hear a word of hope in this chapter in Ezekiel. For we hear God saying; “Yet I will remember the covenant I made with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you.” (Ezekiel 16:60)

Friends; we may forget God’s promises of the past but God will not. God is the keeper of all his promises and all his covenants. Therefore we can trust in God and hear God promising that he will make an everlasting covenant with us.

Today ask yourself if you compare your sin to others so that you can feel good about yourself. Then examine yourself and ask God to reveal your sinfulness to you and help you repent of all sin and turn unto God. This is a lifetime journey for us, but one we can endure because of the grace of God and knowledge of God’s deep and abiding love for us.

O God, reveal to us our sins and guide us unto your ways of grace, true peace and love. Amen.

Eight more days of readings in the Old Testament (Old Covenant) and then we’ll turn unto the new one. We’re also well into the last third of reading through the Bible in 90 days. Congratulations!
