Devotion Day 58 - Through the Bible in 90 days

Day 58 – Jeremiah 48:1 – Lamentations 1:22 (I’ll probably save the beginning of Lamentations for tomorrow, so I can read all of it in one setting.)

Here’s a reminder from Jeremiah, something we all can hold on to. It comes in the midst of Jeremiah’s message about Babylon and how it would one day be completely destroyed.

33 This is what the Lord Almighty says:

“The people of Israel are oppressed,
and the people of Judah as well.
All their captors hold them fast,
refusing to let them go.
34 Yet their Redeemer is strong;
the Lord Almighty is his name.
He will vigorously defend their cause
so that he may bring rest to their land,
but unrest to those who live in Babylon.

Our Redeemer is strong; the Lord Almighty is His name.

That is what we must hold on to in the midst of all the struggles of this life; in the midst of all the chaos of this life.

One of my favorite songs from my high school years is “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” by Simon and Garfunkel. And I believe God is the bridge over the troubled waters of life. Yet, God doesn’t deliver/redeem us according to our schedule but this we can know – God will redeem us and deliver us from all our troubles.

I have some members and family members who are dealing with some serious medical issues. It’d be nice to be healed and made well, right now – today. Yet in each case it’s going to take time. So today, I lift them up in prayer, opening with; “O God, strong and mighty, our redeemer through all the years, may your healing hands be upon those dealing with illness and pain. Guide their doctors and nurses who are Your healing hands. Bring them healing and wholeness. May they today sense your presence and your healing hands upon them. Amen.

I pray also today for our nation as we’ve finally come to the last day of another political season. Glad this day has come, and my prayer is; may God guide us as a nation as we vote and prayerfully put in place or keep in place leaders who will seek to follow Your will and work to bring healing to our nation as a whole. I’ll be glad when tomorrow comes and we know whom the people have elected. God be with us all, as we cast our ballots today. Amen.
