Devotion Day 45 – Through the Bible in 90 days

Day 45: Psalms 135 – Proverbs 6:35 – Today we finished reading through the Psalms. Several verses stood out to me, but only one I want to mention at this time.

Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

The more I learn about the human body and how it goes about giving me life, the more I am amazed. The more I learn about the earth and the heavens, the more I am amazed by all God’s magnificent works. And I only know a little about the human body, the earth and the heavens. There is still more to learn and discover.

One day on the radio I heard that there are more nerve endings in my brain than stars in the sky. Don’t know if that’s true, but this I do know, there are a lot of stars in the heavens and that must mean there are lots of nerve ending in my brain; each doing its job to help get up, get going and do my morning devotions. Amazing it is and God created it all.

A lot of the Psalms are attributed to King David. Now we move on to a book mostly attributed to King Solomon: the book of Proverbs.

Right off we hear; “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” (Proverbs 1:7a) The phrase “fear the Lord” has always somewhat bothered me but I’ve come to accept it. We’re to have a holy respect of God, for God is God the ultimate one, the holy one, the One. It is God who has given life and laws, so we should have holy respect for God. It is God who is our ultimate judge, praise be to God for God’s love shown us through his words and actions.

I may have shared this before but I don’t really like to be addressed as Rev. Winzenried, for there is only one who is to be revered and that one is God. I prefer Pastor Dennis for God called me to help pastor his people and my parents named me Dennis. I think the comic strip may have influenced that but not sure.

Later on in our readings we hear;

20 My son, pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words.
21 Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart;
22 for they are life to those who find them
and health to one’s whole body.
23 Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.
(Proverbs 4:20-23)

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Wow!

Recently I’ve been somewhat angry about something going on in the life of a friend. It really affected my thoughts and my words. It shows me that what is in my heart affects my whole being. One reason I’m excited about reading through God’s word in 90 days is to fill my heart once again with God’s love and God’s ways for in doing so God will guide my thoughts, my words and my deeds.

O Lord, forgive me when I trust in the wisdom and the ways of the world instead of your ways. Through my reading of your word continue your good work of molding me and shaping me in your image. The image you blessed me with at birth and continue to bless me with even today. Amen.
