Devotion Day 43 – Through the Bible in 90 Days

Day 43 – Psalm 89:14 – 108:13

Today, I’d have a really hard time picking a favorite Psalm. For I like many of these. In fact, I really liked this whole reading from Psalms. I especially liked Psalms 95 to 100, and 103. I’m noting in my memory banks, and here since my memory isn’t as good as it once was, that when I need a pick-me-up to read Book IV of Psalms; Psalms 90 to 106.

Here are some of the individual verses that stood out to me.

Psalm 90:4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.

Reminds me of this joke; Just a Second!

So this guy is talking to God; “Hey God what does 100 million years seem like to you?”

God answered, “One hundred million years? That’s like a second to me.”

Then the man asks, “Hey God, what’s 100 million dollars seem like to you?”

God: “One hundred million dollars? It seems like a penny to me.”

So the guy says, “Hey God could I borrow a penny?”

And God answers, “Sure. Just a second.”

Psalm 91:2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God , in whom I trust.”

Psalm 94:12 Blessed is the man you discipline, O Lord, the man you teach from your law.

When we get through Psalms, I’m going to look back at all the “blessed” verses and note each one and how many there are. You can do this by going to Bible Gateway.com and doing a word search in Psalms.

Then from Psalms 103

Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. …

The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.

I give thanks that God is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and especially that God is abounding in love. Thanks be to God. And as many of today’s Psalms ended so I end my devotion today; “Praise the Lord, O my soul.”

O God, in our reading today we heard your people of old praising you for what you had done. They even praised you for those times you disciplined them. May we your people of today also praise you and give thanks for times you discipline us; for as our good earthly parents discipline us to help us, so you our heavenly parent disciplines us to help teach us and guide us along our ways. Thanks be to you O God, that you love us enough to discipline us. Amen.

Next readings: Day 44 – Psalm 109 – 134 In these readings we’ll read the shortest chapter in the Bible and the longest. When we finish the readings today, we’ll be half way through God’s Word unto us. Congratulations.

  • I read your post the other day as my birthday arepoachpd and had to step back and look around to make sure you weren’t looking over my shoulder. I have been running into a lot of the same thoughts and feelings and decided to go back through some of my earlier devotions to find strength and came across this verse as well. I have since decided to open my own blog and record what God is saying to me in my time with him in hopes that someone may need some words of peace as i did and will come across my post and it will speak to them as yours has spoken to me.Thank you again.
